Bronx Rising! Routes of the Black Madonna

Plus Opening Reception of The Dark Magdalena exhibit, curated by Tanya Torres

To celebrate the Black Madonna and her many manifestations, a reception for an exhibit of works inspired by Mary Magdalene will be followed by a screening of The Voyage of the Black Madonna, a documentary about the pilgrimage to the sacred site of the Black Madonna in southern Italy. A Q&A with the film’s researcher, Alessandra Belloni, accompanied by bansuri player Steve Gorn, will include a discussion about the Black Madonna’s Caribbean expressions led by Tanya Torres and Vivian Regueros. The evening will conclude with a dance performance honoring La Virgen de Guadalupe by Mazarte and Trio Sierra Alegre.
