Las Tres Hermanas: Art & Activism

Opening Reception

Opening reception for our latest exhibit, Las Tres Hermanas: Art & Activism. This exhibit tells the story of three sisters, Evelina Lopez Antonetty, Lillian Lopez, and Elba Cabrera, who profoundly changed the cultural and political landscape in New York—especially the Bronx—through literature, literacy, dance, political rallies, art galleries and organizing. It sheds light on their advocacy, its relation to the arts and their lasting legacy in the Puerto Rican community. The exhibit will feature archival photographs, ephemera and original artwork. During the reception, special guests will perform and pay tribute to the sisters, including author and activist Humberto Cintron, musicians Eddie Montalvo, Gilberto "Pulpo" Colon, Bobby Sanabria, and more! And, of course, refreshments! #NYCFree and open to the public! Co-sponsored with Casita Maria Center for Arts & Education & the 2017 South Bronx Culture Trail: Take the Green Train.
