CLASS LINE UP

CONGA CLASS for Teens and Adults (Mondays)

Conga Beginner I, ages 14 - adult, Monday, 5:00- 6:00 p.m. with Jorge Vazquez           
This is a beginner’s class where students will learn basic conga techniques including tumbao on one conga, hand positions to develop and create different sounds, and learn to play and understand the rhythmic pattern clave. Students will learn basic music notation and simple theory.

Conga Beginner II, ages 14 - adult, Monday, 6:00- 7:30 p.m. with Jorge Vazquez           
This is an advanced beginner’s class where students will build on the basic conga techniques learned in Beginner I class including tumbao on two congas, playing and understanding more complex rhythmic pattern incorporating clave. Students will learn to recognize percussion music notation and more complex theory. 
*Prerequisite: Students must take at least two session of Beginner I. Participation requires instructor approval.

PIANO CLASS for Youth, Teens and Adults (Tuesdays)  

Piano Beginner I Youth, ages 7 - 13, Tuesday, 5:15 - 5:50 p.m. with Carolina Calvache 
This is a beginner group piano class for youth where students learn basic music notation, develop proper technique and fingering, learn location of keys and chords, and practice simple songs. Classes offer an engaging and informative introduction to piano and music skills for beginner. 

Piano Beginner II for Youth, ages 7 - 13, Tuesday, 5:50 - 6:25 p.m. with Carolina Calvache 
This is a beginner class for youth that builds on techniques learned in Beginner I. Students will develop their ability to recognize music notation, practice sight-reading skills, learn to read and play bass and treble clef (right and left hand techniques) and play simple songs from a variety of genres including classical, pop and jazz. Classes offer an engaging and informative introduction to piano and music skills for beginner level students who have started taking piano and strive to improve. 
*Prerequisite: Students must take at least one session of Beginner I. Participation requires instructor approval.

Piano Beginner III for Youth, ages 7 - 13, Tuesday, 6:25 - 7:00 p.m. with Carolina Calvache 
This is an advanced beginner class for youth that builds on techniques learned in Beginner II. Piano II, ages 14 - adult, Tuesday, 8:00 - 8:45 p.m. with Carolina Calvache 
This is a beginner group piano class for teens and adults. Students learn basic music notation and sight reading, develop proper technique, learn location of keys and chords, learn to read bass and treble clef (right and left hand), practice simple songs from a variety of genres including classical, pop and jazz. Classes offer an engaging and informative introduction to piano and music skills for beginning to intermediate level and strive to inspire each student’s musicality.

GUITAR CLASS for Teens and Adults (Wednesdays)*

*Students must bring their own guitar for these classes.

Guitar, Beginner I, ages 14 years - adult, Wednesday, 6:00 - 7:00 with Bryan Vargas  
This is a beginner’s class for teens and adults that offers basics guitar playing technique. Topics will include: the parts of the guitar, the language of playing guitar, methods and styles of the guitar, basic notes and open chords, chord construction, scales, and learning songs that are familiar to all. This is a fun and engaging class that will help students develop the skills to perform songs in genres they love.

Guitar, Beginner II, ages 14 years - adult, Wednesday, 5:00 - 6:00 with Bryan Vargas 
This is an advanced  beginner’s class for teens and adults that offers builds on the basics learned in Beginner I. Topics will include: complex chord construction, scales, playing melodies and learning songs that are familiar to all. Also covered will be the basics of reading music, music theory, and how to apply those skills to the guitar. This is a fun and engaging class that will help students develop the skills to perform songs in genres they love. 
*Prerequisite: Students must take at least one session of Beginner I. Participation requires instructor approval.

RHYTHM AND PERCUSSION for Youth (Saturdays)

Rhythm & Percussion for Youth, ages 7-13, Saturday, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. with Orestes Abrantes 
This is a beginner’s class where students will develop the rhythmic skills necessary to play unique percussion instruments from around the globe. Beginning with smaller instruments like clave sticks and the maracas, we will learn musical notation and rhythmic patterns. The class will steadily build to larger percussion instruments like bongos and congas. Students will gain individual skills as well as skills to play with an ensemble of percussion instruments. 

CAPOEIRA CLASSES for Adults (Wednesdays and Saturdays)

Adult Capoeira Class thru Bronx Capoeira (ages 16+)
Wednesdays from 7:00 - 9:00 pm and Saturdays from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.  
Bronx Capoeira offers capoeira culture and fitness in a traditional mixed martial art style today known as MMA. Through capoeira movement practitioners gain flexibility, coordination, confidence, self-defense skills, awareness, health, and wellness. Come move with us!
